Dear Delegates, 

It is my absolute pleasure to welcome you to the eleventh iteration of the Shishukunj Model United Nations as the Under Secretary General for Specialized Agencies. 

Every conference begins long before the opening ceremony. It begins with curiosity, the curiosity to research about a country, to understand a conflict and to imagine solutions to problems that challenge the very essence of peace and prosperity in the world. The fact that you are reading this letter means you have already taken the first step on that journey, and for that, I commend you.

My journey in MUN’s has been far from perfect.When I first attended a Model United Nations conference as an eighth grader, I remember looking at the Secretariat with nothing but admiration. That was the moment I knew that I wanted to be part of the Secretariat one day. Like many of you, I've experienced disappointment, missed out on awards and left conferences wondering if I was good enough, but life has a funny way of working, you don't always get what you want, at least not when you want it. Sometimes, what feels like failure is simply life redirecting you towards something even greater. For me, failure never marked the end of my journey, it simply became another step in it. Looking back, I am grateful that I chose not to give up, because every experience, whether successful or not, shaped the person I am today. 

Today, having the privilege of writing this letter as the Under Secretary General for Specialized Agencies is a reminder that some dreams do not arrive overnight, they are built one conference, one debate and one lesson at a time.

Specialized Agencies are unlike any other regular committees. They demand something more than research and prepared speeches, they require creativity and the courage to make decisions when the unexpected happens. Here, history can change, crises evolve without a warning, and every one of your actions has consequences. So be ready to embrace that uncertainty, because it is where the most memorable moments will be created.

To everyone reading this, first time delegate or not, do not let an award define your experience. The confidence you gain from delivering your first speech, the friendships you make and the ideas you exchange are far more meaningful than any certificate.

I hope this conference inspires you and gives you memories that you carry to your future conferences. Perhaps, somewhere in the audience this year sits another eighth grader who dreams of one day writing a letter like this. I hope this conference becomes the first step of that journey.
