Dear Delegates
I, Vedant Garg, feel immensely grateful to be welcoming you all to the 11th iteration of the
Shishukunj Model United Nations as the Chairperson of the World Trade Organization.
A very significant part of my character development arc has been Shishukunj MUNs. They have
enhanced my personality manifold. These conferences have made me more confident, more
passionate and more communicative. Looking back, I can assuredly say that I have grown into a
completely different person from who I was five years ago.
Shishukunj MUN is an event in which one cannot even estimate what is going to happen
because every person in the conference shall go through something truly unforgettable. You
shall make so many new bonds with people (whom you would have never talked to in regular
school), that you will cherish throughout your school journey and beyond.
The World Trade Organization (WTO), established in 1995, acts as the guardian of the
multilateral trading system. However, in an era marked by escalating and unprecedented
geopolitical rivalries and maritime disruptions, global trade has become significantly vulnerable.
Therefore, I invite you all to examine how crises reshape international trade and energy security
by using the Strait of Hormuz crisis as the prime example. I urge you all to understand this
matter deeply and focus on how to resume trade efficiently, not bring the conflicting parties to a
negotiation.
Kindly note that the committee will follow a freeze date of April 13, 2026. Any developments
after this date will not be considered during committee proceedings.
Although the committee is confined to a moment in time, let your ideas not be confined by it.
