Lok Sabha

Greetings Parliamentarians,
It is with immense pleasure that I welcome you to the Lok Sabha at the 11th Iteration of
Shishukunj MUN 2026. I am Akshita Nyati and I will be serving as your Speaker for this
committee. On behalf of the entire Bureau, I extend a very warm welcome to each one of
you.
I’m a Humanities student who has an unhealthy obsession with politics, current affairs and
anything that involves a good debate. Outside the committee, you’ll probably find me with an
iced coffee in one hand and something new every single time in the other, convincing myself
that this is the last coffee of the day. MUN has been one of the biggest reasons I’ve grown as
a speaker and more importantly as a listener. It has taught me that diplomacy isn’t about
always having the perfect answer, it's about asking the right questions and being willing to
understand perspectives beyond your own.
Our agenda for this year’s Lok Sabha,”Assessing the Role of AFSPA in Maintaining Internal
Security while Safeguarding Constitutional Rights, with Special Emphasis on the
North-East,” is one of the most debated and controversial defence law of independent India.
The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act sits right in the middle of national security,
constitutional governance and human rights. As the Members of the Parliament your
responsibility extends beyond taking a position for or against the act. You must evaluate
whether extraordinary powers can coexist with constitutional rights, analyse the concerns of
both the armed forces and the civilians and arrive at reforms that can uphold both the
sovereignty of the nation and the rights guaranteed by the constitution.
When I attended my first MUN in 7th grade I thought the best delegates were simply the
ones who spoke the most or the loudest. Well I couldn’t have been more wrong. The best
parliamentarians are the ones who listen carefully, think before they speak and who aren’t
afraid to challenge ideas respectfully. So if you’re nervous, that’s completely okay. Raise
your placard, give that first speech, ask that POI and you might just surprise yourself.
Above all we hope this committee gives you the space to learn, question and grow. If you
