Namaste Dear Delegates,
It is with immense pleasure that I, on behalf of my entire bureau, welcome you all to the 11th iteration of the Shishukunj Model United Nations. Congratulations on being a part of the European Union, a committee where every decision has the potential to redefine the future of an entire continent.
I am Aachman Mishra, a 12th grader who has somehow conquered the art of taking on more work than is probably healthy. When I’m not preparing for an MUN or buried in biology, you’ll usually find me chasing my dream of becoming a surgeon, orchestrating a playlist that never seems to stop growing, or convincing myself that watching “just one more episode” is a perfectly reasonable decision despite the mountain of work waiting for me. If there’s one thing you’ll learn about me rather quickly, it’s that I have an unwavering appreciation for sleep, mainly because I never seem to get enough of it.

Having participated in several conferences over the years, I have come to realize that the most memorable committees are never defined by the number of speeches delivered or resolutions passed. They are defined by the quality of debate, the willingness to challenge assumptions, and the courage to defend ideas under scrutiny. That is precisely the environment we hope to create in this committee.

This year’s agenda examines one of the most defining questions facing Europe today: the future of European strategic autonomy amid the decline of American reliability within NATO. As geopolitical realities continue to evolve, Europe finds itself confronting questions that have no easy answers. Should it continue to depend on traditional alliances, or should it begin charting an independent path? Throughout this committee, I encourage each one of you to look beyond conventional narratives, question established assumptions, and remember that diplomacy is rarely about choosing between right and wrong, it is about choosing between competing interests.

While we expect rigorous research, thoughtful diplomacy, and active participation, we also want this committee to be one where delegates feel comfortable learning, questioning, and growing. Whether this is your first conference or your fiftieth, never hesitate to approach the bureau. We have all been delegates ourselves, and we understand both the excitement and the uncertainty that accompany every committee. If you ever need guidance, clarification, or simply someone to discuss an idea with, our doors, and inboxes will always remain open.

I firmly believe that the success of this committee ultimately rests in your hands. Every speech you deliver, every motion you raise, every alliance you build, and every perspective you bring will give direction to debate. My bureau and I are committed to making this an intellectually stimulating, challenging, and memorable experience, and I sincerely hope you leave this conference with not only a deeper understanding of European security but also a greater appreciation for the complexities of international diplomacy.

I look forward to witnessing three days of passionate debate, innovative solutions, and diplomacy at its very finest.
